The Standard is published bi-monthly by the UCU Department of Mass Communication.
The Past
The Standard was established in May 2007 under the Mass Communication Department. Among the key people who presided over the starting of the paper include the VC Prof. Stephen Noll, Illakut Ben Bella (Head of Mass Communication Department), Thomas Froese (coordinator), Wanyama Wangah (Supervisor), Brian Semujju (Staff Writer/News Editor), Frank Obonyo (Staff Writer/Sports Editor), John Semakula (Staff Writer/Campus Life Editor) and Emma Wafula (Staff Writer/Life Style Editor).
The Present
Today, the paper continues to shine under the new management of VC Rev Dr. John Senyonyi, Dr. Monica Chibita (Head of Mass Communication Department), Ann Mugunga (Supervisor/Managing Editor), Arthur Matsiko (Staff Writer/News Editor), Ronald Awany (Staff Writer/Sports Editor), Doreen Kajeru (Staff Writer/Campus Life Editor), Alex Taremwa (Staff Writer/Features Editor), and Rev Sam Hadido (Proofreader).

Ann Mugunga – Supervisor/Managing Editor
MA. International Communications (University of Leeds) B.A Mass Communication (Makerere University), Advanced Diploma in HR Management; Diploma in French Language; and Certificates in Strategic Communication, Graphic Design, Pedagogic Skills, Performance Management, Environmental Journalism, among others.
Ann is a Lecturer, Mass Communication Department. She joined The Standard in February 2016 as the Supervisor/Managing Editor. A Member of the Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association International, she has over 18 years in the communications field ranging from journalism, editing, public relations, lecturing, preparation and implementation of communication strategies, among others.
Before joining UCU she held the following positions: Chief Editor and Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs at COMESA; Editor of Hansard, Parliament of Uganda; Lecturer, Mass Communication Department Makerere University; and Reporter, The Daily Monitor.
