The 2-0 win over Gafford Ladies in the third place playoff was a consolation for the Lady Cardinals after their 1-0 semi-final elimination at the hands of Kawempe Muslim Secondary School women football club.

Jackie Nakasi and Elizabeth Nakigozi were on the score sheet as Tonny Membe’s side had some of their pride restored by finishing third when the 2016 FUFA Women Elite League concluded on June 19, at Nakivubo Stadium.

“It is a job well done. I applaud the strong team spirit and preparation in our camp,” Membe said.

“We came for the championship but somehow we ended up here. It is good that the girls walked away with something to hold onto,” he added.

Earlier, the She Corporates beat Gafford Ladies 2-1 in the other semi-final to book a final berth against Kawempe Muslim Secondary School.

Kawempe Muslim Secondary School edged the She Corporates women football club 4-2 after a penalty shoot-out to emerge champions for the second year in a row.

The champions walked away with Shs3million while the first runners-up and second runners-up got Shs2million and Shs1million respectively.
