UCU Lady Cardinals will for the first time rue the many missed chances and the early goal conceded when they lost to league rivals, She Corporates 1 – 0 at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) grounds last week.
The team who have recently enjoyed a rich spell of form, also have the blundering goalkeeper, Cissy Nakiguba, who gifted the opponents with an opener just five minutes into the game, to further blame for their woes.
Coach Tonny Membe’s side dominated possession for most of the game but failed to capitalize on chances in front of goal as striker Millicent Mwanzi several times came close to scoring but failed to find the back of the net.
Mwanzi and midfield dynamo Maureen Kinavudori kept piling pressure on the She Corporates’ defence. Their efforts almost harvested dividends when Mwanzi slotted in a stoppage-time strike for an equaliser only for the celebrations to be cut short by the referee for offside.
In spite of the loss, Membe, applauded the team and encouraged them to stay optimistic. “It is important to learn how to manage a loss,” he said. “We have to recover in the next game. If we are to win the championship, we should learn how to stay strong during such situations.”
In the previous match, the Lady Cardinals whooped Rhiness SS 7-0, thanks to Millicent Mwanzi who scored four times and Maureen Kinavudori who got a hat trick in a game played at the University Ground in Mukono.
The Lady Cardinals remain top of the table with 12 points and a dominant goal difference, while She Corporates are second with 11 points from five games apiece.
