The year 2015 marked a successful spell for UCU basketball after the Lady Canons reclaimed the Pepsi National Basketball League play-off title and the Inter-University Games basketball championship.
The Lady Canons defeated a resilient KCCA Leopards side in game six 71 – 65 played at the YMCA Courts, Wandegeya in a best of seven series they eventually won 4 – 2.
“This is a sweet win especially after the boys team lost in the final,” said UCU coach Nike Natuhereza after the game.
After blowing a 21-point lead with less than two minutes on the clock in game five, the Lady Canons had a lot to worry about after converting one of eight free-throw attempts in the final minute before eventually pulling away to seal victory.
After winning the first two games, the 2014 champions KCCA Leopards, fresh from an international event in Angola, fought back strongly, but failed to match the strength of the Lady Canons.

The Men’s side, the Canons, also managed to retain their Inter-University Games basketball crown although they had lost to City Oilers 78 – 67 in game seven of the Pepsi National Basketball League play-off championship with the series ending 4 – 3.
