Injury-plagued UCU wins

The UCU netball team recovered from their previous loss to police with an 81-22 win over TLC in the National Netball League at Makerere Sports Grounds last week.

UCU was without Joan Nantume, Hasayha Sumaiya and Veronica Namatovu due to injury. Irene Akello was also absent because she had a test. This did not hold back a determined UCU side that out-smarted their opponents throughout the game.

UCU coach Nelson Bogere had a small pool to choose from with Joan Ameo, Sharifa Nalunkuma, Miriam Namuli, Joyce Nakibuule, Rebecca Nakazzi, Janet Adong and skipper Alice Wasagali, the only available players.

Wasagali attributed their outstanding performance to resilience and teamwork.

“Everyone played to their maximum since they knew that the team was short of very important players; we played our best,” she said.

UCU next play Posta Uganda in their last fixture of the league before turning their attention to the Inter-University games where they expect to compete for gold after finishing as winners in the last edition.
